THE C90s and friends

Posted in Uncategorized on February 25, 2010 by megaphoneteeth

I had just stumbled upon this UK duo called The C90s through the wonderful world of Hype Machine and decided i really enjoyed the couple of tracks i had come across. Doing some research, infamous Too Many Sebastians had tossed up a post regarding these UK kids. Also checkout out the BigStero post on them as well. There is the little clip from the labels website, Relish Recordings

“Formed over a mutual appreciation of disco beats, handclaps, cowbells, and vocoders, Jamie Paterson and Danny Ashenden are The C90s, two DJs who have rocked floors over the UK and Europe for the last two years. Based in London, the duo have been working hard, providing remixes for the likes of Cut Copy, Headman and Tronik Youth. The C90s are now concentrating on producing their second 12″, the first due to be released on Relish Recordings very soon.”

Anyways much love to them for the find, and check out their post regarding it bu i thought i would thrown these up here anyways. I had orginally come across the Vila remix of 10:01 (which is posted below) and fell in love. Some real decent remix, slow burning for the most part but had the hard drive to them as well, you’ll see what i mean. Check out a couple of the tracks you wont be disappointed. The Tape to Tape remix is unreal, check that out 100 and the Roisin Murphy Remix … so DOPE.

The c90s – 10:01

The c90s – 10:01 (Villa Remix)

Headman – Dirt (The c90s edit)

Tape to Tape – The Devil Made Me Do It Part 1 (The c90s Remix)

Roisin Murphy – Mama’s Place (The c90s Remix)

Cleast Eatwood

Posted in Uncategorized on February 24, 2010 by megaphoneteeth

Stumbled on these obvious name thieves randomly and honestly, i did not have high hopes for these Swedish fellows right off the bat. An obvious play off the interesting and arguably clever Gnarls Barkley attempt, Cleast Eatwood rips on a silver screen badass rather than a decently skilled but temperamental basketball player – not even the same type of funny. Anyways, the tracks ended up to be pretty decent. Anyways you guys know the drill, it isn’t news, check out the MySpace and the band website, buy the record yadda yadda yadda. I have posted the Klader and Vapen Remix (Clothes and Weapons) here, pretty decent and got me exploring the unoriginal swedes and found their MGMT cover of Electric Fields. Really cooled out folk interpretation has some serious sentimental attributes. Make out with your highschool girlfriend to this and pretend your cool and make sure the laces are out of your boat shoes. Guys check this junk out because there are some decent elements to it, might make some moves in the near future. Klader and Vapen are also unreal (more on them to come in later days).

ANGO + Butterfly Bones

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on February 23, 2010 by megaphoneteeth

First Generation Scot now living in Montreal ANGO is doing some interesting things. Most recently ANGO is at the Redbull Music Academy doing some dope shit. Check out Jus Like Music’s interview with this character for a little more insight. Pretty decent broke beat/choppy style among this Montrealer. It is nice to see some fresh and interesting things coming out of Canada everyday. We have some dope music up in the Great White North, something that rarely disappoints – unlike hockey. Anyways check out the track and the ANGO myspace as well as the Redbull Music Academy’s lineup, some pretty interesting and upcoming artists – like i said little disappointment.

ANGO – More and More

Stumbled upon this group out of San Fransisco, Butterfly Bones have that scene potential. A potential to gain some popularity real quick, especially with song titles like the one posted below. Don’t know entirely to much about these chaps but i thought it share it anyways. This track has a real MGMT meets Cutcopy shakes hands with Chormeo type feel to it if that makes any sense but give it a listen cause it’s a good one!

Butterfly Bones – <3

Butterfly Bones – X0X0

Holy Fuck … Designer Drugs.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on February 17, 2010 by megaphoneteeth

I had the pleasure of seeing Holy Fuck this summer at the Ottawa Blues Fest, great live performance, even better late night feel. I can not seem to get over the musicianship in these four fellows, check out the usual junk, the myspace, the website, buy the record.

Holy Fuck – They’re Going to Take My Thumbs

I love that these guys are finally getting some recognition. This is a great time to plug one of my earlier adventures with a avenue called 317 Electro. Designer Drugs had been featured a number of times on this now, sadly, defunct blog. Designer Drugs has been a favourite of ours for quite some time and is seemingly getting the respect and exposure they now deserve. Check out their website or rather their myspace for updates and tour information. In the mean time here are a couple tracks to tide you over for now. P.s. New tracks are up on their MySpace.

Annie – Anthonio (Designer Drugs Remix)

Designer Drugs – Drop Down

Black Cab Sessions + The Vatican

Posted in Uncategorized on February 16, 2010 by megaphoneteeth

This has got to be one of the coolest concepts in media today. Black Cab Sessions: One Song, One Take, One Cab simply has an artist in the back of a classic British cab preforming a unique take on some of their most popular tracks. Most recently i have come across the My Morning Jacket rendition of Touch Me I am Going to Scream and was blown away once again by the uniqueness of these performances. Check out the video and many more on their website.  Such “Canadiana” to grace the back leather of this musical taxi include Final Fantasy, The New Pornographers, and some others i am sure.

Came across this interesting piece of biblical information today. The Vatican, rather Pope Benedict himself, the once proud member of the Hitler Youth has released a Jesus approved play list of sorts, rather a top ten album list. I am not going to into full detail here but i just want to mention  that the late MJ’s Thriller has finally gain  biblical approval. check the full article here.

After all that here are a couple tracks to get things going in this looming February. The first track here is a pretty laid back joint, but it is dope so check it out. No really theme here just some good ol music.

Joya Mooi – When I Take a Step Back

King Khan and the Shrines – Land of the Freak

Beatconductor – Funk Boogie

This whole electro hip hop thing is pretty dope much love to any artist that can keep some flow with this shit. this next track i would love to see remixed much like the Phat Kat remix above. Check out their website for more information but these guys are dope on their way some where in the scene. Pretty interesting website for sure. Much love to Jus Like Music for some of the tracks.

Harmonic 313 – Clyclotron

Harmonic 313 – Word Problems

Neon Indian

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on February 11, 2010 by megaphoneteeth

Out of Brooklyn/Austin, Texas (…?) Neon Indian aka Alan Palom had something of an interesting flow, with a laid back electro feel to it. Just a real laid back, almost downbeat feel to his groove. Late night papers or study sessions should make a nice back drop to these tunes.  Anyways check out these tracks that i have come across as well as his myspace for mo’ tracks. Turn it up and lay back.

Neon Indian – Dead Beat Summer

Neon Indian – Should Have Taken Acid With You

Posted in Uncategorized on February 9, 2010 by megaphoneteeth

After about a six weeks from my move back to the Greater Toronto Area i have finally gotten some of my shit together and got my record player and her associates back up and running. In turn this post will be leaning towards some of the slept on gems i have kicking around the crates.

off the top of my melon I have come across this collection by Numero Group called Eccentric Soul. There is approx. 31 different various artist sets, each one with a different theme running from classic venues to the particular artist. None the less I am guna through out a couple of gems i have come across because of these records for your listening pleasure. There are a couple of  classic s running around these hills and valleys so keep your eyes open. This first track is fire, if you only grab one track grab this one!

Marion Black – Who Knows

Elijah and the Ebonites – Pure Soul

Kool Blues – Can We Try Love Again

I think I am just guna keep it simple and small for now, but maybe make this limited record dig a weekly thing. I hope everyone enjoys this soul full tunes. Stay tuned for the St. Valentines addition: “Babies Making Babies: ‘Cause I love all the pretty ladies and all the ugly ones too.”

I just caught this piece of gold a few days ago. Dangermouse’s Grey Album it seems has directly or indirectly inspired this interesting mash up of sorts. Check out Enter the Magical Mystery Chamber produced by Tom Caruana. This song is a banger, but check out the whole album. 27 tracks of gold, check this not fresh concept out.

Wu-Tang vs. The Beatles – City High

i thought i had it all together …
